When it comes to setting up a Facebook Ad there are three things main parts of an ad that you need to know.
- Ad Set
These three sections are important because each has a different set of options that you will need to decide on for your ad, and as you can see from the image above, you can create more than one ad set for each campaign and more than one ad for each ad set. I will explain all this further but for now we are going to focus on the “Campaign” part of an ad.
The Campaign section of any ad on Facebook will contain a box with options to choose what your objective and/or goal is.
Your objective is basically what you are wanting to happen when people click on your ad. For example, if you are trying to get more traffic to your website or create brand awareness the “Send people to your website” would be a good option.
If you are trying to get customers to download your coupon or offer of a discount then “Get people to claim your offer” would be the best choice.
If you have a Lead Magnet and you want people to sign up with their email and download your freebie then “Collect leads for your business” is going to be the best objective for your ad campaign.
Choosing the right objective is very, very important! The reason is because Facebook will serve your ad based on the objective you set and show you results and costs based on what you chose as that objective.
If you are having trouble determining what your objective is, Facebook has a great Help Center article that will walk you through the process.
We are only going to focus on one main objective for the purpose of walking through the set up of an ad. That objective will be “Increase Conversions to your website”. So since we spent some time talking about list building and how to get more email subscribers with a free lead magnet, we will use the idea of converting people into subscribers as our example when we start setting up our ad.
If you have not already done so, you will need to create an ad account in Facebook. From your Facebook Page, click on the arrow at the top right of your Page and you will get a drop down menu. From there, click on “Create Ads”.
Tomorrow I will go over what takes place in the Ad Set portion of an ad on Facebook. This is all leading to the big set up where I will walk you through the process in Ads Manager but for now…..see you later gator!
